The best of Lofoten!
Join a fantastic experience with nature, culture and history in Lofotodden National Park during a combined boat and walking trip.
Nature, cultur and history
Onboard a solid speedboat, we’ll take you on a safe adventure trip past the dramatic Lofoten Wall, abandoned fishing villages, through the maelstrom, and on to Yttersia, the location of Refsvikhula Cave. With its 3,000-4,000-year-old cave paintings, Refsvikhula Cave is a protected cultural monument. Therefore, an authorized guide will accompany you during the entire trip. Coffee and tea will be served during the trip, and as a guest, you will receive a small gift.
Safety First
The guide and the boat driver will meet you at our office in Reine, where life jackets and rescue equipment will be distributed. Our boat drivers have all the necessary certifications, great local knowledge, and are well acquainted with the sea and conditions around Lofoten. Our guides have extensive experience with the tours in this area and have excellent local knowledge of nature, culture and history. Our boats are equipped with rescue equipment according to the current regulations.
Back To the Stone Age
During the trip along the Lofoten Wall and to Yttersia, a long stretch of wild, uninhibited land on the side of Moskenesøya island, we’ll transport you through Lofoten’s more recent history and abandoned fishing villages and then onward to its ancient history and the Stone Age. On the way, we’ll pass through the infamous maelstrom which was, and still remains, an important stretch of sea that is rich in marine life. After rounding Lofoten, we’ll go ashore and take the time for a bite to eat at the camp before we start the walking/hiking portion of the tour. We’ll walk along a well-beaten path that follows parts of the old school road, over stone heaps and a sandy beach before we come to a slightly steeper climb up to the cave itself. The guide will be with you during the entire hike/walk and will share stories about the different places you pass, and then give you a tour inside the cave where you will get to see Stone Age paintings of dancing human figures from several thousand years ago. On the way back to the camp, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the natural surroundings, the view, and the tranquillity of Yttersia. The boat trip back to Reine will have planned stops, but if we see anything exciting along the way, we will certainly have time to make an extra stop.
