Nature, culture and history<\/strong> Safety First<\/strong> Back To The Stone Age<\/strong>
\nOnboard a solid speedboat, we\u2019ll take you on a safe adventure trip past the dramatic Lofoten Wall, abandoned fishing villages, through the Maelstrom, and on to Yttersia, the location of Refsvika Cave. With its 3,000-4,000-year-old cave paintings, Refsvika Cave is a protected cultural monument. Therefore, an authorized guide will accompany you during the entire trip. Coffee and tea will be served during the trip.<\/p>\n
\nThe guide and the boat driver will meet you at our office in Reine, where life jackets and rescue equipment will be distributed. Our boat drivers have all the necessary certifications, great local knowledge, and are well acquainted with the sea and conditions around Lofoten. Our guides have extensive experience with the tours in this area and have excellent local knowledge of nature, culture and history. Our boats are equipped with rescue equipment according to the current regulations.<\/p>\n
\nThe trip will take you along the Lofoten wall to Yttersia, a long stretch of wild, uninhabited land on the side of Moskenes\u00f8ya island. We\u2019ll transport you through Lofoten\u2019s more recent history and abandoned fishing villages and then onward to its ancient history of the Stone Age. On the way, we\u2019ll pass through the infamous Maelstrom which was, and still remains, an important stretch of sea that is rich in marine life. After rounding Lofoten, we\u2019ll go ashore and take the time for a bite to eat at the camp before we start the walking\/hiking portion of the tour. We\u2019ll walk along a well-beaten path that follows parts of the old school road, over stone heaps and a sandy beach before we come to a slightly steeper climb up to the cave itself. The guide will be with you during the entire hike\/walk and will share stories about the different places you pass, and then give you a tour inside the cave where you will get to see Stone Age paintings of dancing human figures from several thousand years ago. On the way back to the camp, you\u2019ll have plenty of time to enjoy the natural surroundings, the view, and the tranquillity of Yttersia.
